About the performance

White ceramic balls overwhelm two acrobatic players. They are far from perfect: not quite round, just all uneven and also with far too many. They roll around drumming, bounce around, suddenly bubble up in a mouth or stick irrevocably to the ceiling.

iRRooTTaa is an invitation to not keep all the balls in the air. It is an ode to the ‘drop’. Because sometimes falling is full of new opportunities. Failure is allowed. The rules change too. Because who knows, the game of life might just become a lot more fun when we can let it slip through our fingers every now and then.

With the audience all around, two players arrange a musical circus composition that makes the balls fly around your shins. iRRooTTaa will be a stimulating auditory and visual circus performance for everyone from the age of four and their overstimulated parents.

About the company

Grensgeval represents artistic and meaningful performance that remains widely accessible due to the physical, sensory, visual language. Therefore they reach a diverse audience, both in age and (cultural) background, at home and abroad.

The artistic core of Grenseval is the duo of Hanne Vandersteene and Mahlu Mertens. They both studied at the Maastricht Drama Academy. Hanne studied further at the KASK and Mahlu obtained her doctorate as a researcher in English literature at Ghent University and published her poetry collection ‘I tape you a bed‘ in 2019 with publisher De Zeef. Within circus they found a language for their imagination. They are working on a unique and recognizable oeuvre that brings circus together with other art-disciplines and injects it with a dose of anarchy, poetry and punk. On stage they build a world in which the audience is immersed and at times even actively part of it.
