Miramiro becomes a workspace

It’s finally official. On January 1, 2021, Miramiro became a workspace for the circus arts. Flemish Minister of Culture, Jan Jambon, honors our organization with structural support from the renewed Circus Decree.

“Over the next 5 years we will be a creative sanctuary for artists and companies who want to create and experiment. It is our task, together with our partners and artists, to shape the future of the circus and to firmly anchor our beautiful sector as an art form in Flanders and far beyond.” says Miramiro director Celine Verkest.

The Flemish Circus Decree went through revision in 2019. The workspaces were included, with a view to the further development and professionalization of the sector. In the course of 2020, for the first time organizations could apply as a workspace, under the new decree.

Miramiro also congratulates all other organizations that have received recognition and funds, in particular the circus companies that are allowed to receive structural support for the first time in the history of the Flemish sector.
