To kick off Smells Like Circus, VIERNULVIER hosts a new edition of Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast. With artists and experts in the room and a pastry and coffee in hand we have a conversation on clowning. Our guests talk about their experiences and reveal sources of inspiration: film clips, books and scientific research. Together we go deeper into the how and why of their work.

19:30 – 21:00 Try-Out: Ritselingen (ENG) – Rode Boom

For programmers and circuspro’s.

Hans Beckers and Kurt Demey find each other in the use of natural elements, the search for a magical experience and interactions with and between the audience. This time in English.

Afterwards there’s time to talk to the artists and ask questions.

Voor programmatoren en circuspro’s.

Hans Beckers en Kurt Demey vinden elkaar in het gebruik van natuurlijke elementen, de zoektocht naar een magische ervaring en interacties met en tussen het publiek. Deze keer in het Engels. Na afloop is er tijd om met de kunstenaars te praten en vragen te stellen.

Interactieve presentatie en debat: Grensgeval vertelt over hun onderzoek in samenwerking met architecten naar het creëren van nieuwe objecten (niet) voor circus.

16:00 – 17:30 Talk: Circus Without Circus

Wat kunnen circusartiesten leren van andere podiumkunstenaars, en andersom? Hoe vergelijkbaar of verschillend zijn hun werkwijzen? Wat gebeurt er als je een acrobaat laat experimenteren met een industrieel ontwerper? Hoe groot is de kloof tussen een trapezekunstenaar en een filmmaker? Welke keuzes maken een hedendaagse danser en een circusartiest als ze twee weken gratis artistiek onderzoek doen? Verschillende spelers betrokken bij het Europese project Circus Without Circus werpen hun licht op deze en vele andere vragen.
