ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

For Ballroom you take a seat inside a converted truck. inside, visual artist Lodewijk Heylen has created a concrete set, where juggler Stijn Grupping through endless practice and a touch of magic, creates an incredible dance of bouncing balls. To the sound of musicians Jochem Baelus and Frederik Meulyzer, he takes you on a wordless journey.

Somewhere, someone was given the task of placing the same balls into the same container over and over again. Day in, day out, year after year, and no one really knows why. In the hope that the walls won’t start closing in, they begin throwing them against them. This way, the balls travel increasingly longer paths through te space, sometimes graceful and deceptively simple, sometimes powerful and complex only to, if all goes well, land neatly back in the container.

Only things don’t always go as planned. How much not going well can someone endure? As the balls become burdens, someone, somewhere, tries to unravel a new dimension in space and time or is it in the mind? To escape the colorless monotony. And when that succeeds, something emerges that you might call pure magic.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Post Uit Hessdalen is the company of juggler and video artist Stijn Grupping and director Ine Van Baelen. They create hybrid performances that blend bouncing ball juggling with (live) music, resulting in a unique mix of circus and musical theater. Their work has received international acclaim for its attention to detail, technical ingenuity, and seamless interplay with the rhythms and drumming of musician Frederik Meulyzer. Through a refined theatrical language, Post Uit Hessdalen explores ways to visualize phenomena such as time, space, and our virtual future on stage.
