About the performance
Juggler Stijn Grupping has been throwing collision balls against everything around him for more than 20 years; from walls, tables and chairs to robots. The balls bounce through space in a controlled way, forming a dirrection game that is sometimes graceful and rhythmic, sometimes complex and powerful. To end – if all goes well – back in the juggler’s hands.
In Ballroom, we break through exactly that most elementary of the discipline of juggling: Stijn throws the balls and then catches them. But what if the balls were allowed to draw their own choreography? How do they want to move through space? From a to b, or rather the other way around? Faster or slower, sideways or with a cha cha cha? Do they color outside the expected lines?
Together with the juggler, you take your place in a converted truck. Through juggling and magic you will discover how the trajectories of the collision balls are cut up and shaken in time and space and presented again in their own reality.
For this musicians Jochem Baelus and Frederik Meulyzer created a world of sound, using everything loose and fixed in the concrete space as their exciting instrument.
