About the performance
‘Ki no Nagare’ is a unique performance merging circus and the Japanese martial art aikido.
Two bodies, at first sight opposites, meet in a dynamic interplay. On one side, a heavyset man weighing 115 kg, on the other, a petite man weighing 58 kg. Carried by the intense rhythm of the taiko drum, their contrast blurs. They explore the limits of balance and cooperation by overcoming energy not with force, but guiding and redirecting it with gentleness and precision. A quest for acceptance and balance.
The performance is a creation of Arne Sabbe (BE), one of the founding members of Collectif Malunés, bringing together his passion for circus and his experience in aikido in this unique performance. The techniques of aikido form the basis for an in-depth physical research of the performance, translated into a powerful and poetic circus performance in a beautiful tent.
