About the performance

Costumes take center stage in Catwalk. Although costumes have been essential to the history of circus, they seem to have almost completely disappeared today. With this performance, Side-Show seeks to reinterpret the history of circus costume. On a long catwalk, with the audience seated on either side, costumes reminiscent of a ringmaster or a historical juggler make their appearance. One look follows another down the catwalk.

With this performance, we revalue the often-underestimated practice of the (circus) costume designer. More than that: the costume designer becomes the screenwriter, with the costumes determining the storyline. What have we lost since we decided to stop using extravagant costumes? Can we still believe in the transformation of a circus artist into a character? If we process and translate history into the present, what stories can we tell?
